Home Learning

At Upton Primary School, home learning helps children to practise the basic skills that unlock all other learning: reading, phonics and spelling, number and talk. It links directly to what your child is learning in class.

How it works

  • Home learning goes home every Friday and is due back the following Wednesday.
  • It is optional. Children who complete it earn Diddy Dots.
  • Every week is one A4 sheet, printed on both sides, with the same layout in every year group, so you always know where to look.
  • Some children have a sheet matched to their next steps, so that every child can be successful.
  • Sheets are written in the Kinetic Letters font, so your child sees the same letter shapes they are taught in class.
  • Every QR code has a web address or instruction printed next to it, if you cannot scan it.

What is on the sheet

Side

What your child will find

Front

Listening and sounds (Nursery), or phonics with a QR code to that week's sounds video (Reception, and children in a phonics group); spelling practice with look, say, cover, write, check (from Year 1); Reading every day, with Accelerated Reader from Year 1 and Times Tables Rock Stars from Year 2; and Draw and talk in Nursery and Reception.

Back

Maths questions and a Think question, with pictures to help and squared paper for working out, followed by a Talk at home question about our British Values and Everyone Belongs.

Reading every day

Please read with your child every day and sign their reading record. Children are rewarded in school for regular reading. If you need your child's login for Accelerated Reader or Times Tables Rock Stars, please speak to their class teacher.
